Ar an leathanach seo

  1. Potatoes are grown on our farm. We plant three acres every year. It is my father who prepares the ground. The potatoes are grown in drills. First of all he ploughs a field in the winter, so that the frost will break it up. This field was in [oats?] the year before. Then he harrows it in the spring, and opens the drills. Then he manures the drills, and drops the potatoes, and covers them with an iron plough. It is all iron ploughs that are used. There are no spades made locally, all the spades are bought in the shops. Here is the kind of the local spades (see margin). Some people help one another in the harvest, others help one another digging the potatoes. Whenever the potatoes are three weeks sown, they are saddle harrowed. Then when they are just above the ground ,they are grubbed and first moulded. When they are about one foot above the ground, they are grubbed and second moulded with a plough to keep down weeks. When the potatoes are ready for digging in the autumn, they are dug with a potato digger and
