- (continued from previous page)There was another poet travelling this locality but I don't know his name. The people used to call him the old poet. he was treated very kindly in some villages but in some places they teased him and made fun of him. He composed songs in praise of the villages in which he was treated kindly. He used to ask money in every house.
"He came from Kinvara in 1909,
To walk east Galway he did incline,
To enter houses that he might find,
In hopes the inmate might cheer his mind,
He found New Inn and west of Cappy
Had wished him not to fall unhappy,
But alas again some did him pillage,
In bappy lane and In Pake village."
Written in 1926 for Larry Headd on his return from America with a pretty bride after six years in exile.
