  1. Long ago the people used to light bonfires on Saint John's night. They used to gather furze bushes, and spread them on the ground. Then they would get some sticks, and turf, and put them on top of the furze bushes, and throw some paraffin oil on top of all, and set a march or two to them.
    While the fire would be lighting, the men and women of the district, both old, and young, would dance around it, and sing old songs.
