  1. The local landlord was Robert Rockford Wade. He lived in Fairfield about twenty years ago. His son is living in Fairfield at the present day but he is not a landlord.
    Not like many landlords Mr. Wade was a kind landlord. He never evicted tenants from their holdings. He had a man named Story as a steward.
    Mr. Story was sent about to the tenants collecting money, which was called "tithes". The people willingly gave the money to the "tithe collector". Battles were never fought on account of the "tithes".
