  1. Old Houses
    At the present day there are scarcely any old thatched houses to be seen in the country, or town.
    The thatching was done with wheaten-straw, and sometimes rushes.
    In the old houses also, there were hardly any more than two rooms, and people with a large family had to set a bed in the kitchen. This was called a settle-bed. There was another kind of a bed, called a press bed. It was also set in the kitchen.
