  1. The Local Forge
    There are two forges in this district. The one I have most experience of, and that is nearest to me, is John Curley's.
    It is situated in the village of Aughrim, on the main road leading from Ballinasloe to Loughrea.
    This man's father and grandfather were blacksmiths also. They bore a very good name of being excellent tradesmen. People came from many districts to them to get their work done.
    Some few years ago, it was only a thatched forge. It is in a very up to date style now. The bellows is an instrument with a long pole attached to it, and a chain for pulling it, to
    keep the fire going.
