  1. Rafftery ( Anthony Raftery ) was a poet who lived at Mangan's in Liskeavy. This is a distance of about six miles from Tuam.
One day as he was walking through a village he met a man named John Mooney. This man was after coming out from a house; he wanted a drink but the woman of the house refused him.
Rafftery turned him in again, and he began to make a poem.
Rafftery an Poet agus Seán O Mooney.
Tabhair dúinn deoch le hanam a ndaoine
The woman got afraid and she said to him.
    " Ara tiúbhrad tiúbhradh
    Tuige na dtiúbhrad "
There were a hundred heads of cabbage stolen from a man in the village. The priest was talking about it to the people the next Sunday. He spoke to Rafftery afterwards about it:-
Go cinnte bhí an oiread ann a dhéanfadh paráiste
Dá mbéad sé gléasta le bagún feoil rósta.
