  1. In our district marriages take place during Shrove. Shrove begins on the sixth of January and ends on Shrove Tuesday. Marriages during Lent are considered unlucky. Lent starts on Ash Wednesday and ends on Easter Saturday at twelve o' clock. Monday, Friday's and Wednesday, are considered unlucky days for marriages.
    Money is given as a dowry. If a girl was going to a house she would take a fortune with her. When evening comes there is a wedding feast held in the boy's house. Sometimes "straw-boys" visit the house, and they are left in, and treated, but sometimes they
