  1. Long ago marriages took place during shrove. Some of the old people remember when marriages took place in the houses, but no one now living was married at the house.
    Friday was considered an unlucky day and May was an unlucky month. Lá na leanbh or the odd day of the year was also considered unlucky. Lá na leanbh was the feast of the Holy Innocents. If that day fell on Wednesday then Wednesday was the odd day of the following year, and in spite of the fact that Wednesday was considered "the best day of all" for marriages
