  1. About fifty years ago a man named Tim Brosnahan went for the priest to come with him to a sick call.
    It was about eleven o'clock in the night and in olden times there were no motor-cars and the priests had to travel in a side-car or on horse-back.
    They were coming along the road in a side-car and as they were crossing a wood a big black dog came out from inside the ditch and jumped into the car.
    The priest asked the man did he see the dog he said he did.
    The priest said that was not a dog but the devil.
    He took the whip from the driver and beat
