    limekiln on most farms. The lime was used for manuring marshy sour land and it was also used in building houses, for making mortar. Cement was unknown in those days. Then all the houses and walls around the farm were lime-washed at regular intervals, usually two or three times a year.
    Fishing for pike in Mannin lake affords much amusement in Winter time even at the present day. The bottom of the lake is composed of white marl, and when the water is frozen in wintertime, the pike may easily be seen swimming under the ice. After about a week's frost
