  1. The Persse estate is the name of my local estate. The name of the landlord which ruled over it was Major W. A. Persse. The estate is composed of thirteen thousand acres besides other estates which he owned near Gort and Ballinasloe. He was supposed to be one of the richest landlords in Ireland. His forefathers on the estate can be traced back for about four hundred years. It is supposed that Persse's first decendant came there as a friar. After coming there he turned a protestant and he hid his vesments in a large chimney of his house which was
