  1. Old Houses.
    26-6-1938
    The houses in former times were different to what they are at the present day. There are not many old houses in my district. The oldest house was built about in the year 1835. Houses were more numerous at that time and the people were also more plentiful. All the old houses were mostly built of stone and timber and roofed with rushes and earth. The rushes were procured from wasteland and boggy land. The majority of the old houses had a bed in the kitchen which was called the "settle bed". This bed was placed in a corner
