    Each of them wants him to do several jobs for them.
    He shoes horses, he makes gates and rollers, he mends ploughs, irons wheels and repairs mowing machines and other farm implements.
    The smith does the greater part of his work in the forge except when making rollers or ironing wheels.
    When he is ironing wheels this is what he does: -
    The person to whom the wheel belongs brings him a box of turf, he makes a great round fire and puts the band into it and reddens it to a white heat.
    The band expands with the heat.
    Then he takes it up, and puts it around the wheel and throws cold water on it.
