  2. Hedge Schools
    I have not heard of any hedges around here with the exception of one which was in the village of Treenkew (?)
    The ruins of it is still to be seen. I was situated in Tommy Kelly's land...school.
    I was there secretly for that ...the time the English were persecuting the Irish and they had the children forbidden to get education.
    Jimmy Mullany was the school master and each pupil paid a pence a week to the teacher. As the school was small many children couldn't fit in. They had no desks that time and consequently they had to sit in stumps.
