    It was of last September morning from East Mayo I took my way.
    I took a notion to cross the ocean to see some friends in America.
    I bought a ticket at Swinford Station, the sight of parting I could not tell.
    The tears were falling like hail in Winter and to my comrades I bade farewell.

    I felt no doubt in leaving my heart was (rinsed?) with the saddest woe.
    As I took a glance at the fertile valleys the flowery borders of East Mayo.
    From Kiltimagh to Claremorris junction and Ballyhaunis I took my way.
    Until our engine came slowly steaming to that lovely station called Castlerea.
