- (continued from previous page)the fire. The last one of the fairies that went out threw out the wheele saying in Irish words "caith amach na rótair. caith amach ná rotair". That was the only way to get the fairies out of the house, because they would stay till morning only for the friend.
One dark night my grandmother and her mother went looking for the ducks in the fields. There was a pool of water near by they saw the ducks in the pool, and they were trying to put them out, when a line of candles and shadows of people came along and went to a fort about a half a mile off.
There are five forts in Derryronane Swinford, each in view of the other. There are slow-bushes in most of them. There are caves in most of them also. My grandmother said she heard of people who went down in Jim Nolan's fort but she didn't know them. The first(continues on next page)- Collector
