  1. In olden times the way they had for churning was with a dash churn and it is also used nowadays. It is like a barrel and it is narrow at the top and wide at the bottom. There is a lid about six inches down on it.
    It is said that if anyone came into the house while they would be churning and if they did not take a turn on it the fairies would take the butter. They also had some other old customs such as putting a coal under the churn or a horseshoe fearing that the fairies would take the butter.
    They also had some special time for churning like May Eve.
