  1. There was once a widow living among the woods, and her only son was living with her. He went out every morning through the trees to get sticks. One day he saw a swarm of flies on a heap of cows manure. He took up his sickle and hit so hard he left not a single one of them living. That evening he said to his mother that it would be time for him to be going out into the world to earn his fortune, for he was able to destroy a swarm of flies at one blow. He started next morning
