  1. A man named John Moran lived about five miles from the village of Jamestown, C. Leitrim in a place known as Corlara, Co. Roscommon. He was commonly known by all as "Jack the Giant".
    It was in the summer of 1823 when the following events happened. The people were beginning to mow their hay. As the mowing machine was not invented at this time men were employed to cut the hay with scythe.
    One man was unable to employ a man to cut his acre of meadow as he was very poor. "Jack the Giant" volunteered to cut
