  1. The penal laws were in Ireland about the year fourteen forty nine. These laws were very bad laws for the people of Ireland. They could not go any place because they were afraid of getting shot, for there was a soldier in every man's land. The priests had a very hard time they had to read Mass at the back of ditches and at the foot of rocks.
    There was a priest that used to read Mass at the foot of a tree at St Patricks well in the County Cavan and a lot of people go there during the Sunday in the Summer to see this well
