  1. When the farmer is preparing for the potato crop he turns the sods with the plough and then he puts out the manure between the sods and spreads it.
    Then he turns the other sod with the plough or the loy or spade.
    Then he puts the clay out of the furrows in between the two sods and makes the furrows in ridges of them and that work is called harting.
    Sometimes he only turns one sod with the plough and turns the other with the loy but it is a lot slower way than the other.
    The varities which grow best in the district are the Kerrs pink which is a pink colour.
    In olden times the Champion was the main crop and it is a very good table potato.
