  1. I reside in a small townland,
    The name of it is Gort
    It stretches out in broad green fields,
    But in length they are rather short.
    II
    The householders only number ten;
    Comprised chiefly of farming men
    Kindly generous an free,
    As you will say if my guest you be.
    III
    Were out to make the most of our time,
    And are generally successful should the weather be fine.
    And I have scarce time my hair to comb,
    In trying to compose this little poem.
