    to be married and they stepped on the stone, but when they were in the middle of the Shannon the stone sunk and the couple were drowned.
    The stone was taken up from the bottom of the Shannon about 50 years ago and it is now outside Whitehall church in Roscommon and it is known as "St Barry's boat".

    "My Daddy was a Colonel in the Irish army. He retired with the rank of Colonel in 1923. He joined the volunteers in 1915. He took no part in the rising of 1916 owing to countermanding of orders. After the release of the survivors of the 1916 rising, he got in close touch again with the late General Collins and Harry Boland and worked in
