The hammer is for putting the iron into shape and driving nails. The chizzle is for cutting iron. The pincers is used for lifting up the hot iron out of the fire and the sledge for [?] out the iron. The bellows is used for blowing the fire. It is said every time the blacksmith puts the hot iron into the water it reminds Our Blessed Lady of the time the Blacksmith made her brooch of iron. - Up to about fifteen years ago a landlord owned most of the land around the districts of Furnace and Derrycarne. His name was Lord Harlech. About 1924 he left and went to live in England and all his land was divided among his tenants. His house was situated in Derrycarne.(continues on next page)
