    Bhí sean-bhean 'na cómhnuidhe i gCúilín uair amháin agus lá d'áirig sí muinntear an tighe ag trácht ar chailín a phós rudin gan maith; do bhí aithne ag an sean mhnaoi ar an gcailín agus cailín breágh dathamhail dob eadh í agus nuair d'airigh sí an sgéal dubhairt sí gan chuimhneamh air:-
    "mo graidhn is mo ghrádh í
    b'fuirist í shásamh
    Ní raibh sé mór ná breágh aici
    Garbh ná láidir."
