  1. There were no schools long ago but hedge schools There were two schools in Foxford a Protestant school and a Catholic school. These were also hedge schools and Mr Sullivan was teaching in the protestant school and Mrs Shield was teaching in the Catholic school. Mrs Shield put her class around the room one day after Mass and asked them what was the meaning of Gluttony. Any child that knew it was put up to the front. And Biddie Moyles answered, "A big puddin that would eat a good deal" and Mrs Shield said nothing but laughed.
    Near Muckenrogh there was another master named Jimmy Foy. He taught in a little hut in a bog a little way out from the village of Mukenaugh. He was the first
