  1. Basket-making was one of the real old Irish trades. The old people around this district used to make baskets of rods long ago.
    They used to get eight strong rods for the ribs. They used to split four of them a few inches in the middle and drive the other four through the splits. Then they used to get two thin rods and weave them between the ribs and keep weaving with thin rods until half the bottom was made. then they would get four ribs half the length of the other ribs point them and put one in between each of the long ribs. They would continue weaving until the bottom was finished. Then they used to put in a rod at each side of every rib. They used to bend the rods up and tie them at the top in the shape of a bird cage.
