  1. About 70 years ago the people had no stone houses. They used to build houses with sods, and sticks. They used to get eight stakes, about nine feet high, and dig eight bog holes down in the ground. Next they would get old branches of trees, and put them round the sides of the stakes. After that they would get sods of turf, and scraws, and put them on the roof of the house.
Next they would put the windows in. They would be very small, and narrow. They would plaster it inside, and outside with morter. The floors woul be made of morter.
Johnny Murohy's father built one of these houses for himself in Drumrevagh, Backs Co. Mayo. They lived in it until about forty years ago. Johnny Murphy Drumrevagh, Back, Co. Mayo saw these houses built too.
