  1. About a century ago there were eight men leaving Ganvagh for to go out in a boat to the Church Island. It was an old turf boat which they were going in. These boats, when a hole would come on them it was fixed with wire nails and old boards in a careless method.
    When they would be going across the Lake for a load of turf they used to bring a few sods of clay in the boat in order if a hole came on it they would put the sod on top of the hole
