  1. There were two district families of this name. One was the Mac Clancys of Thomond or Clare, some of whom were hereditary brehons of the O'Briens; the other was the Mac Clancys of Dartry descended from an Uncle of Milesius, who were from a very remote period hereditary chiefs of this district.
    As might be expected from the unhappy state of our country for centuries, nothing like a consecutive history can be given of Rossclogher Castle and of the Mac Clancys.
