  1. Severe Weather
    The present district called Dartry, which lies at the eastern extremity of the parish of Kinliugh, was until about fifty years ago a thinly populated place. At that time there was a hard frost which lasted for six weeks. It began on the first week of January and continued on until the 26th of February without a break.
    The lake (Lough Melvin) froze as hard as a rock. It was so hard that Saintie Johnston who is mentioned in pages 23, 24, 25, 26 in this book carted turnips & magnolias from an island
