    time. When it came they sent the people to America they died in great numbers on the ships. There were eight millon of a population before the famine, there was only four million they all died from hunger.
    In the great famine in '46 and '47 many people died and perished with hunger
    Michael Beirne's grandfather of Mohill got a farm of land for a half hundred-weight of meal. Out in Laura there are tracks of houses where they fell after the famine
    Some had the potatoes dug in heaps and they died with the blight. For the first year it was not so bad but there were no seed potatoes for the next year. Its said John Boyle of Mohill was ploughing a field he dug up human bones which were supposed to be people buried in the famine but after it the people died with hunger and fever.
