  1. The Quarry Cross is beyond Greeveguilla and near an expansive bog which is on the border of Cork and Kerry. The place was very populous as many people worked in the quarries raising limestone. Over a hundred years ago a landlord named Dunscum made a road leading from the quarry to facilitate the removal of the limestone and his men quarried huge stones some of which are over eight feet high and may be seen as gate pillars in many places. He sent a lot of them to Kingwilliamstown in the County Cork.
    The MacSweeneys lived in the Quarry Lodge and were very independent people. They were called "Mister-this" and "Mister-that."
    Mr Morgan MacSweeney kept as many as twenty-one race-horses at the Quarry Cross at one time and a better horse than "Paddy Blake" was never in Ireland. There used be big races held at the Old Race Course in Killarney eighty or ninety years ago. The Old Race Course was in Lord Kenmare's Western
