    in position at the other. Its fellow on the opposite side is inserted similarly and so on until the second pair ar put in position. He works on until he reaches the geaid or cuinne where the Sciathóg is completed. Sometimes smaller sciathógs are made with only three ribs instead of five.
    Sometimes the sicathóg was converted into an impromptu cradle. If visitors having a young baby came to a house and that no cradle was available the child was rocked to sleep in the sciathóg.

  2. There is no maker of hand-baskets in the school area. The last hand-basket maker was the late Jerry Cronin of Cnoc an Anbhain (?) (Cornhill) Headfort Killarney. He lived about a mile and a half to the West of Barradubh, off the Killarney Road. He died at the age of about sixty-two some twenty nine or thirty years.
