   Our churn is about 3 feet and 4 feet wide around the churn. The various of the churn are the dash, the joggler, the lid. There are two pieces of wood on the lid that represents handles. These handles are used while taking off the lid off the churn. There is a trade mark on the bottom of it. The churn is narrower in the middle than at the top or bottom. We churn twice each week in summer once each week in winter. it is my eldest sister that churns. The butter comes on from twenty to forty minutes. Sometimes hot water is often put on in order to raise the temperature. About in forty minutes the grains are fairly large. Then churning ceases and a pint of cold water to every gallon of butter-milk and churning is continued until the butter grains are about the size of a wheat grains. An ounce of salt for every pound of butter is sprinkled evenly over it and then it is made into a roll. If anyone comes in during the time churning is going on he or she always takes the dash because it is an old saying that he or she would be taking away the butter.
