    To better my fortune I've crossed the big sea.
    I am sadly alone, not a creature to mind me.
    Faith! Im as wretched as wretched can be
    I sigh for the butter-milk as fresh as a daisy
    The beautiful hills and the emerald plain
    And Oh! dont I often times think myself crazy
    About that dashing blue-eyed Nora Mc Shane.
    I sigh for the turf-fire cheerfully burning
    Where often I trudged to it toiling afar
    And toss in its light the thirteen I've been earning
