  1. A crannóg is another name for a lake dwelling The crannog's were put on the lakes for safety There is one in Portlough which is between Derry and Newtowncunningham but it is almost beneath the water now It is covered with bushes
    There is an underground passage from this crannóg to McCrabbs Fort this passage passes underneath the street(?) of an old farm house left hand side of road to Newton
    This passage was used in olden times when they were fighting and if they were beaten at the fort they could retire to the crannog
