wind began to blow from the east which lifted the ice on the eastern end and blew it on the surface of the ice toward the wet making a fierce noise which could be heard about six miles away. This cracking, breaking, and blowing of ice kept people from their sleep at night. On the following summer the frost had not fully left the bog when the tenants were cutting turf on the mountain. A man having walked over the lough one night remarked to another that it was the biggest field he ever walked through.
