- Local CuresMy grandmother was telling me some old cures that she heard when she was young.When (she was young) a person would have a swollen jaw from a toothache, (they) he would pull chick-weed, and roast it and put it to the jaw, and it would reduce the swelling and put away the pain. If a ferret left any of his food after him it is a cure for a chin cough. Tobar Padraig is visited every year on the seventeenth of March to cure warts, and lumps, and if the people have belief in the Holy well it will cure anything. ( A ) A child born after the father’s death has the cure of the dirty mouth. My grandmother has the cure of the calf when he has pain, and this is the way she used to make it.
