  2. When the French had flung their chains and ammunition into Keeldra Lake they had nothing left but a few small guns.
    They started for Granard without delay. They only got as far as Ballinamuck and there they had to fight.
    Some people say that a battle was fought and more say that they did not fight at all, and the white flag was hoisted and consquently they surrendered. The French were taken prisoners but the Irish were slaughtered
