    Shops were not so common in olden as they are now. People had to go to the nearest market town with their eggs. Buying and Selling was sometimes carried on at the houses.
    People used a lot of words when buying (and) or selling a cow. If a man promised to (by) buy a cow from another man he would have to give him some money as a surely that he would buy the cow. That money was called "earnist".
