  1. Local Fairs
    The fairs are always held in the town,the cattle are sold on the streets.Toll is always lifted on pigs and cattle and on horses and sheep. Mr O'Bierne lifts the toll. When buyers of cattle buy they give back half-crowns and shillings for luck. They strike hands and say, "It's a bargain when they sell the cattle. They mark the cattle with a 'keel' and scissors. The halter is often
    given away when bulls are sold, and sometimes with horses.
    The fair of Ballymagovern is held
    ana hill on 23=;November and 23; May each year.Sheep fairs or horse fairs were never held about here.
