  1. There are only a few fairy forts in this district. The general name for them are "forts". One of them is in the townland of Loughross[?]. Some of them are in view of one another. There are fences of trees around them. There is no hole on them, but it is thought that some person filled it with earth. No one ever explored them. It is said that the fairies built them. The purpose for which they were built was to protect the occupants from wild animals. The Danes were not connected with them in any way. The fairies are supposed to be living in them. and there is a story connected with the fairies, that they used to come out at night in the springtime, and plant potatoes in it, and in the autumn they used to come out and dig them also at night.
Some people say that the saw lights near them, and they would often tell you that they heard the noise of harps and pianos playing and the noise of the fairies dancing in the forts. these forts are in the town land of Loughross[?], in the parish of blonclare[?] and in the county of Leitrim
