  1. The most local fairs are held in towns which are Manorhamilton, Blacklion, Kittyclogher, and many other smaller towns. Buyers did transact business in the country and at the cross roads. This custom is still carried on in places. There were a good many fairs held formally which are not discontinued. The reason of this is, that there were too many fairs, and then they were no good so an end had to be put to them. The reason of this was A [?] There is no tradition of fairs being held on hills on or in castles, the Fair of Thur.
    There are special places in each town for fairs such as in Manorhamilton we have the fair green around where the Manorhamilton Castle is situated. It is here that calves, cows, bullocks and all kinds of cattle are sold. The pigs are sold on the bridge were main St. is left for ducks and all poultry. Luck money is always given. Different amounts are given. If they get a good price for the animal sold five shillings is given. Agreement is shown on a on a bargain by shaking hands.
