  1. There were no fairs held in the country long ago, as well as in the towns. The name of the man that collects the toll is Mr. John Shiel who lives in Foxford. They have a fairgreen near my townland in Straide.
    When the farmers are going to the fair with cattle they tie a bit of string on to their tails or put some tar on their hair so that they may know them when they get mixed with other cattle. They mark pigs with a knife.
