  1. There are two forges in this parish. One of them is owned by Joseph McCole and the other by Patrick Early. One of them is situated in the centre of the village of Glenties and the other a little bit outside of the village. Both roofs are slated and there is one fireplace in each.
    Tools used by the smith are. The bellows, an anvil, a hammer and sledge. The work a smith does is shoeing horses and donkeys, repairing gates, ploughs, harrows, shoeing cars and carts wheels and making pokes and apes.
