Long ago the people believed in fairies and they never interfered with the places the used to inhabit in the way of cutting trees or stubbing out the ground because they thought it would bring them ill luck. Some never threw out water after night full for fear the faires would be out and they might wet them. The Banshee is still believed in. It was said that before any of the Conaghan family who lived in Gortnasillagh died that the Banshee used to be heard.
    I heard an old woman say that an unknown old woman came into one of the old O'Donnell woman in Mulnamina and asked her for the loan of a can of meal. She got it and came back next day with her own meal. She
