    As I roved out one evening
    It being in the month of May
    A mother and her daughter
    I spied along my way.
    As she sat down quite calmly
    To the milking of her cow
    Saying "I will and I must get married
    For the humour is on me now".
    Shut up you silly young girl
    And hold your sinful tongue
    You have time enough to get married
    Sure, there's ten long years to come
    The daughter shook her shoulders
    And she milked away her cow
    Saying "I will and I must get married
    For the humour is on me now".
    And then if you'll get married
    Will you tell me who's the man
    But quickly then she answered
    "It is William, James and John
    A Carpenter, a tailor and
    a man to follow the plough.
