- In most districts special customs are held on feast day's nearly every year. On New Years day all the growing up fellows gather together, and then for every night for a week they go about from the house to house gathering money. As they are reaching a house they say, "Here comes I Bilsie Burn where on my shoulders I carry my club in my hand a drift [?] palm [?] money. I want and money I crave and if you don't give me money I'll bring you all to the grave anything from a pound to a five shilling piece.
Then they go into nearly every house and take a few dances when they have a few dances taken the people give them about two or three shillings. then when have about three pounds gathered they go to some house and get permission from the man or woman of the house or who ever the house belongs to to have a mummers spree so any boy who(continues on next page)- Collector
